Sports Day!!

Last week marked the 5th Annual CRC Kabala Primary and Junior Secondary School Sports Day(s).  Here are some pictures ...
Yellow "house".

Red house leader.

Scoreboard near the end of the second day.  Green house (the one sponsored by our office - also Maria's house)
held on for victory!
Many of the trophies are recycled volleyball trophies from Fraser Valley/Surrey Christian School.  Thanks Joe Melissen. I even saw a Junior Boys trophy from a team I coached in the late '90s.  I think I'm happier sharing the legacy.
Lining up for the all-house relay.
Teachers from their respective houses running the 100 meters.
Relays are a big deal.

They weren't exactly sure what to do with our kids, so they just had them in a 100 meter race with one representative from each of the 4 houses.  When Naomi, who ran first, was called to the post, the announcer said,
"Naomi - the white one - will now be racing ..."

When the race was being introduced, hospitality was clearly a value as she asked each house to send someone to run against Jacob.  But, make sure to send someone who "no go able run pas Jacob."  I don't think you need to know Krio to figure out what she implied.  In the end, Jacob finished 3rd and the announcer triumphed,
"At least you beat yellow, Jacob!"

You can see the relief that she is finally running, after not knowing if/how/when she'd be running/competing.
Maria likes to blend in.

Yup, it's a bottle-on-your-head race.  And they run fast.

High jump is much more impressive when you have to land it as well.  (No foam crash pads here.)

Musical chairs gets physical.

Bike race around the dirt track.  Almost as fan-friendly and accident-prone as a bicycle race on the cobblestones of Gastown in the rain (aka The Gastown Grand Prix).

Find the scripture passage and then run to the finish line.

I like this one.  It's the "paw paw" race.  That's how babies are 'slung' over much of Africa (pronounced popo).  Here, children race to sling their 'babies' and cross the finish line first.
